The Assemblies of Yahweh publish two magazines:

  • The Narrow Way Newletter
  • The Sacred Name Broadcaster

1. The Sacred Name Broadcaster

The Sacred Name Broadcaster (SNB) is a monthly religious publication of the Assemblies of Yahweh, edited by Jacob O. Meyer. The Sacred Name Broadcaster began in 1968, growing out of the Sacred Name Broadcasts (radio message) of 1965. The name of the magazine comes from the Gospels (Matthew 13:18) – the parable of the sower. The first Sacred Name Broadcaster used the distinctive image of a sower scattering seed on the ground as its front cover. Unlike the Narrow Way magazine, the Sacred Name Broadcaster focuses on Biblical subjects.

The choice of magazine name

The title itself, The Sacred Name Broadcaster leads insight into the focus of the Assembly from which it originated. The main stimulus being its desire to broadcast the True Sacred Name (Yahweh) more widely. Additional meaning in to the deliberate choice of the word ‘broadcast’ are rooted in its definitions [1]:-

1. Broadcast over the airwaves, as in radio or television;
2. Sow over a wide area, esp. by hand; "broadcast seeds".
3. Cause to become widely known; "spread information"

Webster’s Online Dictionary

The magazine’s concept is similar to the Parable of the Sower sowing the Word ( Mark 4:1-20, Matthew 13:1-23, and Luke 8:1-15).

Historical background

The magazine came in to existence in June 1968, two years after the first Sacred Name Broadcast (radio broadcast) of February 5 1966. The Sacred Name Broadcast was first heard over radio station WBMD, Baltimore, Maryland, at which time the Assemblies of Yahweh had no publication dedicated to teaching the accurate Sacred Name of the Almighty, Yahweh, and His Son, Yahshua the Messiah. The Sacred Name Broadcaster began with humble beginnings, Jacob Meyer and his loyal wife Head Deaconess, Mrs Ruth F Meyer, spent many hours of their day laboriously preparing the magazine to have ready for those who sought more information on the Sacred Name, and the faith of the Assemblies of Yahweh. To begin with the ministry had to suffice with limited finance although interest in the Assemblies of Yahweh grew fairly rapidly. Initially, materials and articles were created (as it continues today) by the editor and early issues laboriously hand-typed by the Editor’s loyal wife (Head Deaconess, Mrs Ruth F. Meyer) through simple technology such as the spirit duplicator and later on the mimeograph machine. Due to the fact that the magazine was primarily put together by hand through the Meyer family, the Sacred Name Broadcaster has been quite accurately described as a “labour intensive” publication [2].

"Miraculous growth"

Subsequent changes were then made to enhance the magazine’s quality and the printing process was contracted to a print shop in the local vicinity. Further strides towards self-sufficiency were later achieved backed by an idea proposed by members at a Feast observance in 1971: a ‘Print Shop’ was erected on the Assemblies of Yahweh grounds which enabled a more efficient and refined production of the Sacred Name Broadcaster magazine. Over the decades, the printing process continued to evolve, upgrading its network of machinery, expanding into newer technology and branching out into further magazines such as ‘The Narrow Way’, although the Sacred Scriptures Bethel Edition Bible, books and calendars are still printed locally. Miraculously, despite the financial obstacles such as growing mailing costs, The Sacred Name Broadcaster continues to flourish, evident through the phenomenal growth of the mailing lists from the 130 or so names of 1968, to over 16,000 interesting individuals today [3] Each month, thousands of copies are distributed freely from the Assemblies of Yahweh Headquarters, Bethel, Pennsylvania to individuals across the world, crossing the borders of North and South America, Europe, Africa, India and the Philippines.

Additional sections

Articles in the magazine have included: history of the Assemblies of Yahweh, Quest on healthy living, Bible studies, radio broadcasts, program log and Prophetic Trends. The magazine went from strength to strength, with additional articles such as Questions to Bethel and Prophetic Trends section added to the magazine. Though the former section has only an occasional appearance, the latter has been a permanent section since its first appearance in 1970. This section was to highlight the prophetic signs which were pointing towards the end of the age. Unlike many other religious denominations, the Assemblies of Yahweh do not set dates for prophesy to take place, but they do compare biblical prophesies to events happening in the world, which they believe are fulfilling these prophesies.

Prophetic Trends

Elder Meyer compares seeds to the teachings of the Sacred Scriptures which has the potential to create fruit for the glory of Yahweh
"Though it is the smallest of all your seeds
yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree:
so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches." Matthew 13:22

Almost since the initiation of the Prophetic Trends in 1971, Jacob Meyer has warned of an economic crisis which would lead to a new world order on this earth – the Beast System. Many members of the Assemblies of Yahweh believe the time is coming very soon. Based upon Bible prophesies throughout the whole Bible, largely Isaiah and Revelation, Elder Meyer tries to show how the Bible is warning people of the things to come, and that the only way is to return to Yahweh’s righteous laws, and to look toward the Kingdom of Yahweh. Sir Elder Jacob Meyers’ teachings are strongly biblically based, but because of the seriousness of the Assemblies of Yahweh, they are often seen as a distinct and diverse people. Its difference to the giant of Christianity, is that the Assemblies of Yahweh hopes to bring repentant peoples willing to worship Yahweh and to keep the Biblical, moral laws of the Bible. According to the Assemblies of Yahweh, the law is not done away with; in fact [4] “nothing could be further from the truth”. Plainly, disobedience to the law results in eternal death (Romans 6:23). The Assemblies of Yahweh fervently hold that Yahweh knows best for man, whether man wants to believe it or not and therefore, the laws commanded by Yahweh are for mankinds own protection and spiritual growth.

And other [seed] fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some a hundred. And he said unto them, He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

(Matthew 13:18) It is one of the key forms of literature regularly circulated within the Assemblies of Yahweh, outside of which it is used by educational institutions as a basis for scholarly debate.

2. The Narrow Way Newsletter

The Narrow Way is a bi-monthly publication magazine of the Assemblies of Yahweh, which was inaugurated in 1971; its editor is Sir Elder Jacob Meyer. The name of the publication is believed to have come from Matthew 7:13-14 KJV which declare:

“Enter you in the narrow way: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leads to destruction.

The Narrow Way magazine certainly lives up to its name, as unlike the Sacred Name Broadcaster, its readers are exclusively baptised members of the Assemblies of Yahweh.

Purpose of the Narrow Way

The magazines purpose is to update the “brethren” of the Assemblies of Yahweh on the latest news in the brotherhood. It contains detailed reports of the Sabbaths, High Sabbaths, Holy Days -including the Feast of Tabernacle reports (yearly) –and the Sabbatical Year Newsletter (every seven years). The Sabbatical Year Newsletter is slightly different from the former reports because it specifies the particular foods that can be eaten at that unique time of year. The magazine has conventionally begun with a “Letter to the Brethren” section, written by the directing Elder of the Assemblies of Yahweh himself, Sir Elder Jacob Meyer. Narrow Way readers are warmly greeted in this section, and informed of the progress and events which the Assemblies of Yahweh have engaged in the past month. Often, some mention of radio station WMLK is mentioned, while other perceived miracles and blessings of the brethren are brought to the readers attention.[1]: ----

We thank Almighty Yahweh for having blessed in such a wonderful ways, so that the ministry can fulfil His work in these last days.

—( Sir Elder Jacob Meyer ) ,

Later on in the magazine, in the “Assembly Lines – Yahweh’s Ministry in Action!” section, reports of the various meetings appear from all around the world, written by the Missionaries of the Assemblies of Yahweh. Finally, the magazine also contains a prayer list and has information of births, baptisms, marriages and other news of the brotherhood. In the early stages of the Narrow Way, the Sacred Name Broadcaster and the Narrow Way were alternating with each other, but later the magazine diverged by taking a more internal look on the Assemblies of Yahweh. On the other hand, the Sacred Name Broadcaster remained on the subject of (“broadcasting”) “spreading the seed” (Matthew 13:18) and therefore, explained the importance, the benefit and the reasoning of keeping Yahweh’s Laws.

Since the Narrow Way is exclusively for members of the Assemblies of Yahweh, circulation of this magazine is thought to be less than a thousand.
